To support these efforts, Stantec GS is seeking an individual to facilitate the development, continuous improvement, and implementation of the Stantec GS Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) written programs and practices within our Stantec GS team. The HSSE Director will support the organization in day-to-day operations by working collaboratively with our worldwide teams to implement, review, and improve existing written programs and practices. This role will be based in one of our Stantec GS U.S. office locations.

Your Key Responsibilities

The HSSE Director will provide a full range of HSSE services which may include the following:

  • Lead the Stantec GS OSEC team. Responsibilities within the group include: regulatory review, development and revision of programs and practices, documentation, communications, and training related to Stantec’s HSSE programs and practices.

  • Work in cooperation with Stantec GS Operations Director, Project Managers, and OSECS worldwide.

  • Build trust and relationships with operational leadership, Project Managers, field team members, and HSSE practitioners throughout the Stantec organization.

  • Remain current with emerging trends, regulations, HSSE best practices, and Client requirements.

  • Lead Stantec GS HSSE Program & Practice initiatives as determined by the Stantec GS Operations Director and Stantec Director, HSSE Services.

  • Work with the OSEC team to communicate and implement policies, programs, and practices.

  • Perform annual inspections at all Stantec GS office locations in the U.S. Perform biennial inspections at Stantec GS offices outside of the U.S.

  • Review and approve office Emergency Action Plans and Hazard Communication Programs for all Stantec GS office locations. Ensure implementation of plan/program requirements and annual updates.

  • Working with Stantec GS executive leadership, schedule and present Stantec- mandated quarterly safety briefings for all Stantec GS staff.

  • Provide support to leadership in the presentation of a Safety Moment during group meeting within Stantec GS.

  • Prepare or review/approve all Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) and Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) required for projects involving field work. Ensure the plans are prepared i.a.w. client requirements, OSHA regulations, and USACE directives.

  • Schedule and provide pre-work safety briefings for field teams as required, working in cooperation with Project Managers.

  • Assign all required LMS training, including safety, security, HR, and FOCI courses, and report compliance weekly/monthly to Stantec GS Leadership, OSECS, OMs, PMs, and field/office teams.

  • For Stantec-required courses, report training compliance on a monthly basis to @StantecLearning.

  • Provide International Travel Security Plans (ITSPs) to all Stantec GS team members traveling outside of the 50 United States and territories. Schedule and lead a pre- trip briefing for all travelers.

  • Ensure compliance with FOCI requirements, monitoring sharing of HSSE data and project information submitted to Stantec, such as in the International SOS and ProSapien incident reporting systems.

  • Report to the Government Security Committee (GSC) regarding the status of safety-related Shared Services authorized under our Affiliated Operations Plan (AOP).

  • Provide 24/7 support for injury management and incident investigations. Assist in completion of ProSapien reporting as required by Stantec. Counsel the employee and supervisor as required.

  • Maintain HSSE metrics and injury reporting for compliance with OSHA and MSHA regulations, and make available on request.

  • Coordinate and connect with Quality team as an audit partner for internal and external services.

  • Where required, assist in planning and supporting ISO audit activities.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong preference for formal education in health and safety, and a professional HSSE designation (ASP, CSP), or in process of acquiring

  • 30-Hour OSHA General Safety Training for Construction, 40-Hour USACE EM385-1-1 Training, 40-Hour OSHA Hazwoper, and 8 Hour Hazwoper Supervisor certification, or in the process of acquiring

  • Practical application of occupational health and safety legislation, standards, and best practices, in multiple jurisdictions

  • Strong leadership skills, attention to detail, the capability to assess and organize priorities, and to work independently.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities; and the ability to build and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.

  • Ability to understand and adjust communication style to suit the audience.

  • Computer proficiency with the Office 365 suite of services.

  • Preference for experience with the following:

  • Large, multi-disciplinary organization

  • HSSE documentation and program development

  • Training and public speaking

  • Environmental controls and/or management systems

  • Multi-jurisdictional experience

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or other related field

  • 10 years of experience in an HSSE role, preferably management level or a Master’s degree and 5 years of experience in an HSSE role.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $103,800 - $155,800 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI

  • $103,800 - $167,100 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
