Your Opportunity

As an Urban Planner within our Community Development business line, you will have the opportunity to build a successful urban and regional planning practice based in our Chandler, Arizona office. Your knowledge and industry relationships in the municipal and private sectors within the Arizona marketplace will compliment Stantec’s multi-disciplinary technical expertise and Urban Places team to successfully win and execute new urban policy and transportation planning projects within the region.

In this role, you will engage our expert resources to form teams who can deliver thoughtful, compelling proposal submittals to successfully secure new and repeat business clients. Your strong understanding of development due diligence, entitlement processes, transportation considerations, environment permitting requirements, stakeholder communications, and project financial management will help guide Stantec’s team to provide exceptional deliverables through project life cycles, achieve client satisfaction, and maintain profitability for the projects we execute.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and maintain municipal and private client relationships and play a key role in client management and satisfaction.

  • Develop a working understanding of and relationships with Stantec’s other urban and environmental planning resources and technical consulting practice areas to support growth of our planning practice and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.

  • Conduct and/or guide urban, environmental, and transportation planning analyses.

  • Obtain traffic, GIS, and land use data.

  • Prepare technical reports, perform calculations, and conduct various transportation studies.

  • Prepare proposals to pursue opportunities with new and existing clients.

  • Define and manage project objective, scope, schedule, budget, contracts, subcontracts and multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure client and project team satisfaction.

  • Interact with and develop excellent relations with clients, regulators and stakeholders to determine project requirements and guide to approval.

  • Ensure client and regulator satisfaction via appropriate facilitation, negotiation, and issues resolution.

  • Coordinate project execution to meet requirements of Stantec’s PM Frameworks and maintain compliance with ISO 9001 certification.

  • Prepare comprehensive documents and manages complex urban and regional planning, due diligence, entitlement, and environmental review projects.

  • Direct and prepare Initial Studies, Negative Declarations, Environmental Impact Reports, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and supporting technical studies.

  • Perform project research as required to obtain the background information to start a new project.

  • Reviews work for accuracy and coordinates with others to ensure efficient execution and QA/QC of deliverables.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proven track record of urban planning business development to build and ability maintain strong client relationships.

  • Strong knowledge of State and municipal legal requirements, and design/planning procedures in relevant jurisdictions.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational and collaboration skills.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate complex issue to clients, regulators, and stakeholders.

  • Strong knowledge of development economics, regional governing agencies and their review and processing procedures.

  • Highly effective in assembling and leading teams on complex projects.

  • Demonstrates ability to readily identify potential problems and develop effective solutions on a project.

  • Manage project budgets, conduct monthly invoicing, execute project change orders, and seek out invoice collections on multiple concurrent projects.

  • Proven and demonstrated high quality technical writing skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Proficient understanding of relevant drafting/design software, such as AutoCAD, GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Urban Planning or related field; Master's degree is a plus.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.

  • GIS experience is preferred.

Office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field. Some travel may be required, such as meeting attendance at agencies or clients. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
