Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Project Health & Safety Supervisor to join our Mining team in Arizona. This is a field position. This role will be responsible for implementing our client’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) program and serve as the Principal Point of Contact for the administration of the HSE Program at the client’s site.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Principal Point of Contact for administration of the client’s HSE program.

  • Develop and/or maintain HSE strategies and action plans that define the commitment to a proactive HSE culture through auditing, investigation, and compliance reporting.

  • Conduct and/or monitor HSE auditing, analysis, and performance reporting.

  • Be responsible for writing HSE performance/compliance reports.

  • Interact with owner and third-party project team members for coordination, communication, and documentation related to the HSE program.

  • Implement and/or manage HSE training for Stantec staff at all levels and responsibilities. - Assesses and refine the HSE processes and procedures (as needed) to maintain their effectiveness and alignment with the needs of the project.

  • Ensure compliance with HSE legislation and regulations (including monitoring for changes).

  • Establish benchmarks and performance standards to monitor and evaluate the HSE activities of design consultants and contractors to assure the work conforms with the contract documents and industry standards.

  • Coordinate and conduct HSE audits of project-specific teams (including third-party teams) to evaluate conformance with and effectiveness of established HSE processes and procedures.

  • Communicate with other employees and supervisor to record suggestions, complaints, problems, quality concerns, and recommendations; evaluate each and then devise and implement a plan of action based on that evaluation.

  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.

  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective actions to eliminate or minimize hazards.

  • Prompt reporting of Safety, Health, or Environmental incidents or issues to management so the situation can be corrected. Listen to and take appropriate action on client’s expressed concerns and observations.

  • Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety, as well as the safety of all personnel on site.

  • Explain difficult issues and facilitate or negotiate resolutions as needed.

  • Interpretation of customer HSE needs and assessment of requirements.

  • Manage performance of employees through task assignments, ongoing skill assessment and coaching.Learn and follow Stantec internal health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) policies.

  • Assist with Stantec HSSE policy compliance when supervising personnel, whether on site or in office locations.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience with preparing and delivering effective presentations to small and large groups.

  • Experience in mentoring junior staff.

  • Strong leadership skills, the capability to assess priorities, comfortable working independently or in a team atmosphere.

  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.

  • Broad working knowledge of all trades, disciplines, and associated special processes, inspection, and testing techniques.

  • Excellent knowledge of Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations and their application in heavy industrial environments in Arizona.

  • Ability to safely lift and carry heavy items weighing 50 pounds or more.

  • Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas with full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.

  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.

  • Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

  • Excellent computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).

  • Ability to monitor third party HSE staff in a manner conducive to the effective implementation of HSE standards and programs.

  • Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas with full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.

  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.

  • Ability to adapt to schedule changes and travel as required to perform duties.

  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Education and Experience

  • Professional experience in design, construction and/or project management, and in construction-related quality control/ quality assurance/inspection is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field from recognized university with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior level at a health and safety position, OR

  • GED and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior level at a health and safety position.
