Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mechanical/Piping Supervisor to join our Mining team in Chandler, AZ, Salt Lake City, UT, or Denver, CO. In this position you have the opportunity to lead and assist with various clients in completing studies and detailed engineering projects for underground and surface mining operations. The Mechanical / Piping Supervisor reports to the Mechanical Supervisor , but on a day-to-day basis works in collaboration with Project Managers and project teams locally, regionally and globally. This role directly supervises the US mining mechanical piping team consisting of engineers and designers. The primary responsibilities would be to develop and take care of the people on your team, advance the technical practice and to promote a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and efficiency.

  • You will work with a team of engineers and designers in the planning and execution of project work, including scoping, studies, detailed engineering, calculations, support details, material take-offs, and as-built documentation. You will provide technical support during construction and commissioning.

  • You will provide clients with engineering support to meet their needs and incorporate client suggestions for future requirements in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. This includes attending client meetings, which may at times be onsite or in client facilities, as well as corresponding directly with the client.

  • Regularly interface with other disciplines and departments to execute projects and develop resource allocation, forecasting and identify staffing issues with Project Managers, Discipline Supervisors, Integrated Design Manager and the Discipline Engineering Manager to staff projects with the right people.

  • Organize, develop and lead team to success both administratively and technically and work with each team member to support them in their career development, including performance management as required. Communicate expectations to direct reports and measure performance and implement active coaching, training and mentoring of team members considering that direct reports may be located in the various Stantec offices worldwide.

  • Identify specific recruitment needs and manage the hiring process including orientation and on boarding of new hires.

  • Design with safety, constructability and sustainability in mind and foster this mentality through periodic drawing and analysis review as part of Stantec’s internal quality framework to ensure applicable safety codes, regulations and guidelines are met by appropriate design and use of technology.

  • Review and develop piping department standards and technical framework for project execution.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Self-starter, with the ability to manage change and work with minimal supervision. You must be a contemplative person who is willing to challenge your own work as well as the work of those around you.

  • Experience which demonstrates supervisory skills and leadership abilities to complement technical experience.

  • Previous experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering/construction projects with a consulting firm or Owner’s team is preferred.

  • Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes (ASME B31, API650, IPC, UBC, ASHRAE, SMACNA, etc) and familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and a willingness to work in a team atmosphere, including involvement in technical business development.

  • Ability to take the lead on a project team and lead piping engineers and designers to successful completion of projects.

  • Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (10% travel).

Education and Experience

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • A Professional Engineering license is required (or the ability to become licensed).

  • 10 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining.

  • Previous experience in the following is desired:

    • The design, specification, and installation supervision of industrial piping equipment/systems.
    • Mine dewatering.
    • Pumps.
    • Compressors.
    • Pressure piping/pumping applications, including slurries.
    • Copper solution mining and/or SX/EW processing.
    • Brownfield condition assessments, commissioning, and/or operations support.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $108,000 - $162,000 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
