Your Opportunity

We are actively seeking an Architectural Designer for our growing Higher Education | Science and Tech Team which operates within our Retail | Industrial Studio. Our team provides innovative design solutions to bring our clients’ brands and development programs to market. Our professionals help clients to achieve strong branding and market penetration by adapting prototypical facility designs for each unique site, and by creating design solutions that meet the multi-faceted needs of clients, developers, and jurisdictions. The Retail | Industrial group services all phases of a project including site analysis and planning, conceptual design, securing entitlement approvals, preparing construction drawings and specifications, permitting a bidding and construction services. This is an intermediate level Architect design role. You will work under the guidance of a Senior Designer or Architect to develop conceptual site plans, schematic design concepts and space plans as well as exterior and interior elevations, building sections, and architectural details for a variety of project types. You will be assisting with innovation and creation of new prototypes, designed using sustainable products with green architecture sensibility as your goals. An ability and interest in leading and developing BIM technologies and innovations, incorporate models into Newforma and Enscape/Lumion and participate with our Digital Practice teams is preferred.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Project Architect in the development of design drawings, as well as provide support in all project phases.

  • Support Project Architect in the development of presentation materials.

  • Assist in the development of design concepts through the use of sketches, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.

  • Utilize BIM technologies in the development of base building models and their components.

  • Participate in design critiques and pin-ups.

  • Under a Licensed Architect’s supervision, Interpret and apply building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.

  • Conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.

  • Prepare and revise documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections, and details.

  • Under a Licensed Architect’s supervision, coordinate building systems (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure compatibility with design intent.

  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of building systems and materials.

  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.

  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.

  • Implement sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.

  • Assist in site analysis, research of concept, benchmarks, typology, and precedents.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic knowledge and application of accessibility codes and applicable building codes.

  • Working knowledge of building construction systems means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards is expected.

  • Understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.

  • Develop floor plans, wall sections, and details.

  • Check and review own work for accuracy, completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability and willingness to actively participate and collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of architectural document production.

  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought, through hand sketches and design concepts and communicate ideas to others effectively.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.

  • Ability to communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written).

  • Ability to collaborate with virtual teams, problem solving mindset, great work ethics, high aspirations and desire to grow into a well-rounded architect.

  • Desire to work in an environment with exposure to a multitude of projects and tasks.

  • Ability to efficiently switch between tasks and deliverables following the client always changing needs is preferred.

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite,

Possess intermediate Revit skills with the ability to produce deliverables in every phase of a project; Prefer experience with Abobe Creative Suite, Autocad, SketchUp or Enscape, Newforma, Sefaira, Latest creative modeling software. 3D Printer, Laser cutter experience is not mandatory but preferred.

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in architecture or related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Experience in higher education and/or S&T sectors is preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Occasional Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather, but not mandatory for this role.
