As a member of the Global Talent Mobility team, the immigration consultant will provide support on coordinating the employment-based immigrant and non-immigrant visa process for qualified foreign national employees mostly in the US and Canada (approx. 60%-70% US and 30% - 40% Canada).
Reporting through to the Sr. Global Talent Mobility Manager and working closely with a US based immigration consultant, you will foster a collaborative team environment and a strong service-oriented culture that ensures delivery of efficient, effective, quality driven services.
You will work with a group of Global Mobility Professionals based in Canada, India, and Australia. Our team provides support to business travelers, temporary assignments, permanent relocations and expatriate tax compliance/planning.
You will be in close contact with Stantec’s Talent Acquisition Team, Stantec’s external immigration advisor, hiring managers, and HR Business Partners. Developing a solid partnership with these clients will help you to succeed in this role.
Your Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage the day to day administration of Canadian and US employment-based immigration requirements and petitions
Partner with external immigration service provider on the strategy and details for all cases and associated employer-sponsored petitions
Work with external immigration service provider to ensure SLAs are followed accordingly.
Present immigration assessments for employees based in the US and Canada.
Communicate to foreign nationals regarding all stages of their non-immigrant and immigrant status (including documentation, strategy, and case progression).
Communicate to hiring managers about immigration alternatives for new hires.
Oversee and ensure that deadlines are met for the filing of immigration extension processes and commencement of permanent residence processes.
Act as a liaison between the external immigration service partner, foreign national employees, human resources, and managers to provide accurate and appropriate information and guidance.
Ability to educate leaders about immigration options for external candidates
Ability to explain complex immigration cases to clients without any immigration experience
Maintain and audit US Department of Labor and PERM Labor Certification Audit files.
Oversee the external immigration service partner relationship, including providing feedback regarding service levels and overall partnership.
Manage invoices coming from the external immigration service partner.
Provide expertise and consultative skills in assisting the team with process improvements to streamline, document and bundle immigration and visa processing.
Carry out administrative tasks related to immigration processes including filing, mailings, and electronic documentation.
Plan and execute effective communication strategy to convey timely immigration updates.
Ensure new hire immigration documentation is archived in internal database.
Maintain and audit immigration reports.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in International Business- or Business-related field
5 years of experience working in a technical Canada & US immigration role
Canada Immigration Experience: Intra Company Transfer, Express Entry program Working Holiday Visa, Young Professionals Visa, Federal Skilled Worker Program, TN Visa, Permanent Residence, etc.
US Immigration Experience: H1-B Visa, L1 Visa (blanket and non-blanket), TN Visa, E3 Visa, O1 Visa, PERM Process, etc.
5 years of experience supporting employees in different immigration scenarios
5 years of experience working with an external immigration partner
5 years of experience influencing clients to ensure they understand any risk associated with immigration petitions in the US and Canada
GMS Certification is a plus
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Travel may be required between local offices and throughout the region.
