Your Opportunity

As a Mechanical Stress Engineer your role is to work with moderate supervision and direction on average sized projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a senior engineer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for projects of average complexity/size.

  • Perform and check pipe stress calculations for underground pipeline and above ground piping system

  • Prepare and make document results and technical reports

  • Experience in performing stress analysis and flexibility calculations for various systems such as pump piping, pump/compressor piping, large storage tank piping, PSV piping, large diameter piping, underground pipeline, high temperature (creep range) piping, etc.

  • Prepare calculations for various issues such as slug flow, mixed phase flow, cyclic service, differential settlement, wind, seismic, PSV thrust force, etc.

  • Consult with department manager and other senior personnel on technical problems, and schedule issues relating to project commitments

  • Assist in the development of department work instructions and technical guidelines

  • Select, design and evaluate pipe supports

  • Review client technical specifications related to piping flexibility analysis, piping components, etc. and ensure compliance with the same.

  • Coordinate with Process and Mechanical disciplines to determine Process data and any special Process requirements or equipment operation modes.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong Understanding of industry standards and applicable ASME B31.3, CSA Z662.

  • Knowledge of line list, piping material specifications, and piping specialty items is required.

  • Experience with Smart Plant, Auto Pipe and Caesar II is required.

  • Experience with FEA tools such as Nozzle Pro, FE Pipe or other is preferred.

  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Strong multi-tasking, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Organized, methodical and detail-oriented.

  • Proven problem solving skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred

Licensed Professional Engineer

Minimum of 5 years of work related experience

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
