As a Senior Civil/Structural (CS) Engineer your role as a senior contributor on our professional consulting services team is to work independently to lead a CS team on large projects or a portfolio of projects of high complexity through all phases of a project lifecycle as well as execute small projects requiring specialized skills as a CS engineering specialist and/or project manager. You are responsible for developing and implementing an engineering discipline group or project team equipped with up-to-date engineering and design tools and innovations, technical and supervisory capabilities and operating procedures to successfully and efficiently execute projects and consulting services resulting in client satisfaction and on-time delivery.
Your Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership of preliminary and detailed designs
Coordinate work within a multidiscipline team environment
Produce sketches and provide engineering input to drafting
Provide civil/structural technical support during construction phase of projects
Produce calculation packages, prepare project specifications and perform CS checking of drawings
Check work prepared by others in the CS group including junior engineering staff
Ensure all engineering work is performed in accordance with Quality programs
Provide CS engineering and design input to proposals and act as proposal lead for specialized CS project pursuits
Project manage or act as coordinating professional for CS based projects
Manage project budget and schedule with respect to deliverables
Monitor client satisfaction of CS execution and build client relations
Identify business development opportunities
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes
Perform building code studies and/or engage our Architectural group depending on code study complexity
Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
Strong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production
Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule
Participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others
Well-developed understanding of other discipline scope, skills and responsibilities in order to mitigate project exaction gaps between CS and other interacting disciplines
Anticipate various Client stakeholder needs and raise potential mis-alignment from project base scope early to minimize impacts of scope changes
Strong presentation and interview skills
Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
Requires experience using structural engineering/finite element analysis software such as STAAD, S-Frame, SAP2000, Dyna 6, LPile
Demonstrated business development and marketing skills
Demonstrated leadership experience in professional engineering organizations or equivalent at the professional level
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Licensed Professional Engineer required.
Minimum of 12 years of experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
