Your Opportunity

Stantec has an opportunity for an Intermediate-Senior Biologist to help lead our wildlife programs. The position will be in either Sidney or Burnaby, British Columbia. The ideal candidate for this position is one that can capitalize on existing client relationships to expand Stantec’s profile and market share in the regional and national market. Working in a team environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing and leading wildlife field programs, preparing components of environmental assessments, writing wildlife management and monitoring plans, and supporting environmental permitting activities for a variety of projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, manage and support components of environmental projects, including:

  • Promoting a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment Program

  • Interacting and interfacing with environmental regulators

  • Advancing assignments/projects that require critical thinking and technical knowledge

  • Demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Planning and undertaking assignments/projects, independently or as part of a team, that have a broad scope or are complex in nature

  • Developing, managing, and implementing terrestrial wildlife components of projects, such as biophysical inventories, environmental assessments, management and monitoring plans, and compliance reports

  • Providing technical advice relating to natural science and biology on multidisciplinary projects

  • Coordinating and tracking of assignments, scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables

  • Demonstrating leadership and coordination of staff across operating units

  • Proposal writing

  • Client management, client communication, and business development

  • Technical writing and report preparation

  • Technical direction to staff/mentoring of staff

  • QA/QC of technical documents

  • Support field work as needed

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated experience in project development and management

  • Knowledge of environmental legislation as it relates to British Columbia

  • Experience preparing environmental assessments/ impact statements and other regulatory applications

  • Demonstrated technical writing skills

  • Willingness to travel for project work and business development opportunities

  • Strong interpersonal and social skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/ technical backgrounds including internal and external clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous groups

  • Desire to mentor and manage junior and intermediate staff (experience supervising people and/or leading teams is an asset)

Education and Experience

Bachelor or graduate degree in biology, or a related discipline from a recognized university

Minimum of 8 years of relevant consulting experience

Registration with the British Columbia College of Applied Biology as a Registered Professional Biologist, Alberta Society of Professional Biologists as a Professional Biologist, or British Columbia Institute of Agrologists as a Professional Agrologist

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
