As a Hydrotechnical Engineer you will work independently and act as part of the overall WaterPower & Dams team that provides engineering services on small to large-sized domestic and international hydroelectric and dam, installation and refurbishment projects, with the objective of meeting the defined contractual scope, schedule and budget to the relevant codes, standards and company procedures.
Acting as a key technical hydrotechnical resource providing technical direction on and/or senior review of projects and proposals and collaboration with staff and managers in other BC offices and out-of-province.
Developing and executing annual business and pursuit plans for developing new business opportunities and growth within BC, including cross selling of services.
Developing and maintaining a network of business contacts.
Participating in or delegation of participation in local professional and/or business associations.
Developing annual budget forecasts, and maintaining appropriate staff levels to meet budget; ensuring staff are adequately trained and appropriately utilized.
Undertaking business development.
Providing recommendations on hiring.
Ensuring projects are adequately resourced and supported. Identifying and mitigating at-risk projects.
Develop and manage strong relationships with new and existing clients, field personnel, government and regulatory agencies.
Ensuring appropriate Quality Management System is applied on team’s projects.
Managing personnel and proposing staffing conflict solutions with support from Human Resources.
Mentoring and/or coaching staff.
Maintaining an up to date knowledge of existing and emerging opportunities, trends, regulatory requirements and best practices.
Analyzing and preparing competitive proposals, recommendations and reports for projects relating to hydraulic design.
Participating in multi-disciplinary project teams, guiding and instructing others.
Contributing to the development of complex project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.
Providing practical and economic solutions to clients that differentiate the team.
Ensuring proper implementation and continued use of safety and quality assurance programs and corporate policies and procedures, including Ethics and Compliance.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
A minimum of 15 years of professional engineering experience with minimum 5 years related to hydroelectric facilities with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized and accredited institution.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in BC or other Canadian Province. PE registration will be considered an asset.
Strong understanding of hydrotechnical engineering aspects of hydroelectric facility design and construction.
Experience in design of hydraulic structures for hydroelectric facilities.
Experienced in conducting/overseeing statistical and deterministic hydrological assessment including Probable Maximum Flood analysis.
Experience conducting/overseeing hydraulic analyses, including flood and dam break studies.
Experience in assessment of hydroelectric power and energy yield based on short and long term inflow sequences.
Experience in undertaking Dam Safety Reviews, including preparation of Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance and Emergency Preparedness Response Procedures.
Experience with current software for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling such as Flow 3D, ANSYS Fluent, HEC-RAS, River2D, Mike-11, etc.
Participate in the writing of project work plans, proposals and reports.
Strong analytical, communication and technical writing skills.
Knowledge of American, Canadian and provincial codes and standards.
