The Protection and Control Engineer is responsible for P&C design
and calculations for the delivery of substation automation system for our high voltage
substation projects. The incumbent will work within a
multi-disciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable substation automation
systems. You will coordinate the planning and design activities to maintain
project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
Your Key Responsibilities
Follow P&Capplication document to define P&C and SCADA design scopes.
Develop control buildinglayout, P&C one line diagram, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout andwiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram, bill of material,cable schedule, point assignment, etc.
Visit the site tocollect and verify data to support engineering during identification phase,definition phase and execution phase of the project delivery cycle.
Carry out/review/analyzecomplex technical studies and project scopes; develop and review technicalspecifications, drawings and standards of equipment/ projects.
Review the design basememorandum, detailed engineering scope and guide the assigned disciplineengineers/designers to align the engineering deliverables according to projectrequirements.
Provide constructionsupport including resolving site queries, attending site meetings andperforming site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
Selection of equipmentand material and preparation of specifications for material, equipment,construction and installation work.
Conduct SCADA-relatedand/or Telecom-related engineering activities under supervision of senior SCADAor Telecom engineer.
Professional of Recordon P&C design deliverables (drawings and reports).
Review of internal andexternal designs for code compliance, good design practice andconstructability.
Maintain completeproject documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations, alldesign packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
Work closely with peersto ensure accurate delivery and thorough P&C design that will meet industrystandards and specifications and meet good engineering practices.
Maintain good working
relationship with internal groups that support project such as other
Engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction and Project
Management etc. Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline
project team members
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Professional Engineer registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
Demonstrated knowledge and experienceof PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, CYME, SKM Powers, etc. are considered an asset.
Understanding of substation Civil/Structuraland Electrical design.
Excellent oral and writtencommunication skills. Good presence with customers/clients in conveying technicalknowledge. Solid relationship skills both internal and external.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microstationand AutoCAD.
A valid BC Class 5 divers license.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering (Power System preferred). Licensed Professional Engineer.
Minimum of 6 years of proven direct detailed design experience in Protection & Control for HV substation projects within Utilities in North America (minimum of 3 years experience on BC Hydro projects)
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
