Your Opportunity

We are looking for a talented, and ambitious GIS Specialist in our Burnaby or Sidney BC office. The successful candidate will provide GIS solutions to fulfil the requirements of our internal and external clients. Stantec’s Environmental Services group delivers projects primarily in Oil & Gas, Mining, Forestry and Infrastructure Development sectors in British Columbia.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage GIS projects including spatial data, budgets and timelines as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships, be a liaison between internal and external staff including project managers, discipline contacts and other consultants

  • Serve as GIS lead on projects of varying lengths while supporting other GIS staff as required

  • Implement procedures for data integrity and quality control

  • Interpret and analyze spatial and non-spatial data

  • Perform complex spatial analysis using scripts and geoprocessing tools

  • Create and edit shapefiles, file geodatabases, raster surfaces and other spatial and non-spatial data

  • Prepare data for field survey crews, including GPS, Trimble and ArcCollector applications

  • Produce custom thematic maps for technical reports and field surveys

  • Maintain health and safety protocols

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Required

  • Experience working with the ESRI suite of applications

  • Experience developing and providing analytical spatial solutions for multi-disciplinary teams

  • Experience with map and graphic creation in support of reporting and other deliverables

  • Experience with mobile data collection hardware and software

  • Ability to work within a team environment

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

  • Prior experience in the delivery of GIS products and analytical solutions as they relate to Environmental Assessments for mining, oil and gas, wind farms and government projects is an asset

  • Familiarity with DataBC and other provincial and federal government datasets

  • Experience with PEM and TEM datasets

  • Experience with Python programming

  • Experience with FME

  • Experience with LiDAR data

  • Experience using Autodesk/CAD

Education and Experience

A GIS diploma or a bachelor’s degree or higher with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a GIS Specialist. Experience in a consulting environment is ideal. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Environmental Assessments, oil and gas, forestry, mining and permitting.

Typical office environment working with computers and primarily desk based. Travel is not anticipated.
