We are actively seeking a talented and ambitious Fisheries Biologist in our Burnaby, Sidney, or Terrace, BC offices. You will plan and coordinate field programs. You will also support the preparation of technical reports and management of data.
Your Key Responsibilities
Recording data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner
Preparing technical reports detailing environmental assessments and monitoring activities
Providing environmental monitoring services on construction projects
Completing office tasks such as data management, analysis, and interpretation; report preparation, preparation of environmental approval applications and other general tasks
May assist in providing input to proposals or pursuits of various sizes and complexity
Completing Health and Safety and QA/QC protocols
Travel will be required
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Proficient in and consistently demonstrates and promotes policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (if applicable).
Proven technical, communication, writing and organization skills
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Experience and availability for regular field work locally and in remote and challenging locations for up to 14 days at a time
Must have electrofishing and first aid certificates
Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
Proficient in MS Office applications
The following would be an asset:
Previous consulting experience
Experience in freshwater systems in BC
Additional terrestrial (e.g. vegetation, wildlife) field experience
Knowledge of current provincial and federal government regulatory requirements
Project management skills
Experience conducting fish and fish habitat assessments, analyzing data, developing habitat compensation plans, and preparing technical reports
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related subject with two (2) years of experience as an aquatic biologist, or a technical diploma in biology or a related subject with three (3) years of experience as an aquatic biologist required
Master’s degree in biology or a related subject would be an asset
Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) accreditation or eligibility would be an asset
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
