Currently, we are seeking a Senior or Principal Environmental Planner to join us with experience in Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The location is flexible and could be in any of our nationwide network of offices. You will primarily support the delivery of our UK infrastructure and development programmes, within the water, energy, transport and urban development sectors. We have strong demand from our clients to carry out SEA on plans, programmes and policies such as water resource management plans, drought management plans, drainage & wastewater management plans, regional transport strategies and local development plans. We are also involved in EIAs and non statutory environmental assessments for a range of development consent types in the water and other sectors, from permitted development, through Town & Country Planning Act to Development Consent Orders. You will collaborate and work closely with our multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.

ABOUT YOU

You will hold a Bachelor's or Master’s degree ideally in one of the following areas:- Environmental Management, Environmental Assessment, Environmental Science or Environmental Planning.

You will have experience in environmental assessment including SEA, Sustainability Appraisal (SA) and ideally also in environmental appraisals and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIAs) / planning applications. Knowledge of the UK consenting regime for infrastructure projects; experience of working with infrastructure providers, utilities such as water companies, and local authorities; and working within a consulting environment will also be of benefit.

Preferably, you will have an understanding of related discipline areas such as town planning, sustainability, landscape, archaeology, ecology, contaminated land and hydrology. Other advantageous knowledge and experience includes:

  • Accomplished in people management, communication and organisational skills, particularly co-ordinating multi-disciplinary teams, and working collaboratively within large client teams.

  • Awareness of UK local planning and flood risk management authorities.

  • Sound knowledge UK transport agencies and sustainable transport modes.

  • An understanding of sustainable development, the circular economy and the challenges, risks and opportunities posed by climate change.

  • Good understanding of the environmental impacts associated with transport plans and projects and infrastructure developments such as river and coastal flood defence schemes and coastal strategies.

  • Established understanding of relevant stakeholders for SEAs and EIAs.

Chartered status and Full Membership of a recognised relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)). Where a candidate does not meet this requirement, they would be expected to achieve this as a priority if appointed.
