The role of the Senior Civil Engineer is to manage and oversee Land Development projects in Stantec’s Community Development. Unique to the Community Development practice is our collaborative structure of civil engineering, landscape architecture, sport design, and our urban places teams where the candidate will oversee projects of various size and complexity and be expected to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, quality reviews, proposal and technical writing and project management The projects that a Senior Civil Engineer may be assigned to may have complex and innovative features that will require the application of mature judgement and knowledge. This role also leads the analysis of proposed projects to ensure technical reliability, resource efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Your Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership, oversight, technical mentoring, and guidance to community development staff in Boston, MA.
Project management, including proposals and scope of work preparation, budgeting, invoicing, scheduling, etc.
Preparation and development of engineering design plans. Coordination of projects among many disciplines.
Lead permitting efforts with municipal and state permitting agencies.
QA/QC review of design plans, in compliance with design standards and guidelines.
Coordinate with clients and agencies regarding project data, needs and status, as necessary.Client management and development
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of local, state, and federal regulations and codes.
Strong understanding of all phases of project document production including technical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Ability to lead a team of 10 civil engineers through all phases of project document production.
Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
Advanced understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams.
Work with other business centers across Stantec on a variety of projects.
Business development experience is ideal.
Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant design software, which may include AutoCAD Civil3D, HydroCAD, StormCAD. Experience with REVIT is a plus.
Experience with Massachusetts Stormwater standards.
Soil Evaluator License in MA is preferred or ability to obtain.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
Professional Engineering license required, licensure in MA preferred.
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience required, preferably in the field of land development.
