The role of a Civil Aviation Engineer-EIT in our Airport Sector is to work as a team member on small and large projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer and/or Project Manager in our recognized Northeast Aviation Group. The Civil Aviation Engineer-EIT will work to develop skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering transportation systems for aviation related projects.

For this position the Civil Aviation Engineer-EIT will perform a variety of tasks which may include assisting with the development of plans and specification for airside facilities such as runways, taxiways, and aprons, as well as landside roads, general civil/site development, storm water collection and treatment, and other related projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Uses knowledge of the general concepts of relevant civil engineering elements including the design of roadways, signage & markings drainage, grading, etc. Airport infrastructure design is a plus.

  • Performs civil engineering design tasks on assigned transportation or development related projects.

  • Performs basic calculations.

  • Assists in the preparation of engineering calculations, project document reports, client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects, depending on experience.

  • Attends and assists in client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client's goals, depending on experience.

  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate correct actions.

  • Utilizes relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and complex working drawings. Continues to develop skills using software programs for design and/or drafting.

  • Performs duties as an on-site quality assurance resident engineer representing the owner/client during construction of airport related development projects and other civil/site development projects including daily reporting, quantity tracking and HSSE reporting.

  • Performs other duties of a nature and level as appropriate and as assigned.

  • Makes presentations to federal, state, and local aviation officials at established milestones during project design development and construction.

  • Travel to other Stantec offices for team collaboration, as required.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.

  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for significant periods of time, ability to walk over/traverse uneven ground.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Ability to take initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.

  • Basic knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, as well as relevant software programs which may include, AutoTurn, AviPlan, HydroCAD, and pavement design tools is highly desirable.

  • The desire to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

  • The desire to work on active airfield construction sites which may be remote from their home location. Our current project portfolio is across New England and the Caribbean.

  • An OSHA-10 Certification is desirable.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Survey Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering/Management Technology from ABET accredited program.

  • Engineering Intern Certification (Fundamentals of Engineering Exam) with the aim of obtaining full professional licensure.

  • A minimum of 3 years of early career experience at an engineering consultant or construction related firm is highly desirable.

  • Position will primarily work in both an office and a construction setting.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • 85,200 - 123,500 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
