Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists with Stantec as a Traffic Engineer in our Austin, Texas office. We are seeking a highly-motivated person who will work closely with Stantec's project managers on the planning and development of traffic engineering projects. They will be responsible for developing traffic studies, traffic analyses, signing/payment marking plans, traffic signal designs and plans, lighting designs, and/or ITS designs for various highway and roadway traffic engineering projects. They will coordinate with and provide support to the highway and community development groups, and on traffic engineering projects throughout Texas.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Use knowledge of the general concepts of civil, transportation, and traffic engineering

  • Perform development and design of traffic engineering projects

  • Prepare project plans and drawings for various highway and roadway traffic projects

  • Conduct project related field visits, traffic capacity and operation analyses, traffic impact analyses, signal warrant, safety evaluations, and other related traffic engineering work

  • Perform signal designs, signal timing, ITS planning and design, signing and pavement marking, roadway and sidewalk planning and design, and other related traffic/transportation engineering work

  • Prepare plans and reports for relevant project design elements

  • Responsible for preparing and coordinating technical activities on assigned projects

  • Conduct interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials

  • Performs more complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects, including engineering drawings, engineering reports and required applications to regulatory agencies

  • May be responsible for the review and sealing of own projects or the work of the others

  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, reviewing agency personnel and project team members

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field; Master of Science degree is a plus

Licensed Professional Engineer

Minimum of 5 years of traffic engineering experience

Ability to perform traffic studies, analysis, and modeling using Synchro, CORSIM, and/or VISSIM, is preferred

Comprehensive understanding of all phases of project document production

Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies

Possesses excellent time-management skills; Thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources

Thorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions

Knowledge of calculations performed by software

Proficient using relevant design software; Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microstation is preferred

Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite

Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting

Ability to create and interpret sketches, drawings, and various exhibits

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
