Your Opportunity

Our Buildings teams in Austin and Houston TX are looking for an enthusiastic Structural Engineer to collaborate on the design of facilities with our in-house Architects, Interior Designers, and other Buildings Engineers. The position will provide the structural support for K-12 education, higher education, commercial, municipal, and industrial building projects, as part of the integrated services design team.

The role of a Structural Engineer is to work with general direction on medium complexity/sized projects, and as a team member on large projects under the guidance of a Senior Structural Engineer. The Structural Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all engineered systems or products for a project. A Structural Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which includes Revit design, calculations, construction document review, and field work.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • With supervision and direction from a senior structural engineer:

  • Development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood framed structures.

  • Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers.

  • Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.

  • Prepares and revises construction documentation in various structural phases including foundation plans, framing plans, diagrams, and details.

  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.

  • Participates in meetings with owners and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.

  • Assists upper-level staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.

  • Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.

  • Participates in constructability review.

  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.

  • Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group.

  • Works on multiple projects.

  • Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Requisite knowledge and application of structural material design codes, standards, and applicable building codes.

  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.

  • Presentation and interview skills are preferred.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit; Prefer experience with Structural Component Design Software, Comprehensive Building Analysis Software, and Structure Finite Element Analysis such as Tekla, RAM concept, Risa 3D, and SAFE.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience is required.

Typical office environment working with computers and sitting at a desk. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
