Stantec’s Urban Places practice is a national leader in Suburban Retrofit and Downtown Revitalization, and our growing National Capital Region planning and urban design team is strongly engaged in these practices at the metropolitan and national levels.
Your Opportunity
Stantec's planning and urban design studio in Arlington, Virginia is looking for a creative and motivated planning/urban design intern to be based in Arlington for the Summer of 2024. This is a paid internship position during the summer months. The preferred candidate will have a passion for urban design and planning and possess the skills necessary to communicate urban design concepts graphically.
Technical experience with at least one or more of these software programs is a requirement: ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or SketchUp.
Above all, the successful candidate will be organized, highly self-motivated, and curious, have a friendly, professional demeanor, and be able to multitask, ask questions, and learn from feedback.
Your Key Responsibilities May Include
Map creation and data analysis with ArcGIS
Graphic or rendering development
Report editing in Adobe InDesign
Assist in the development of community plans or corridor studies
Assist with facilitation of public outreach events
Assist with entry level planning &/or design duties
Technical writing, and summary of project-record notes/files
Tabular data analysis and summary reporting
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Strong oral and written communication skills
Comprehensive approach to challenges and problem-solving
Adaptive to new software programs and web platforms
Strong research skills and open to feedback
Experience with ArcGIS Desktop
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software such as Photoshop, InDesign, &/or Illustrator
Education and Experience
College coursework in Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Engineering program, or similar field working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
