Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a safety-focused leader with construction experience to oversee construction quality assurance (CQA) at a mine reclamation project in Taos, New Mexico. This person will work on-site daily, directing a team that verifies that construction meets the design. This is a full-time on-site role with a minimum two-year commitment, possibly up to five years.

Potential compensation is excellent; employees in this position typically receive 10 hours of overtime per week plus vehicle, housing and meal per diem, while living and working near picturesque Taos, New Mexico. Great opportunities for skiing, biking, hiking, fishing and rafting.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining a high-functioning safety culture, tracking compliance with safe work practices and adhering to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner. OSHA training will be required.

  • Developing and implementing design solutions, as-built construction records, and other field engineering activities utilizing AutoCAD Civil3D software.

  • Coordinating, directing and executing Stantec CQA field team activities and documentation, including field observations, sample collection, field testing (as required), daily field reports.

  • Reviewing and responding to technical memoranda, requests for information (RFIs), as well as detailed as-built reports pertaining to the project reclamation construction activities.

  • Providing supervision and direction for various QA activities including sieve analyses, sample collection, photo-gradation analyses, nuclear gage density testing, and as-built surveying.

  • Interacting daily with client management, engineering, and field staff to plan and execute CQA activities

  • Presenting at various project meetings

  • This position will be expected to identify, diagnose, and develop potential courses of action to address deficiencies and challenges as they come up during construction and articulate them to the client, construction contractor and Stantec leadership.

  • Leadership of the Stantec CQA team will be necessary including effective delegation based upon the skills of team-members.

  • This position interacts throughout the organization internally and externally with clients and members of business and professional organizations.

  • Ability to work on multiple project tasks and deliverables simultaneously.

  • The selected candidate will be highly organized and efficient.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a B.S. in engineering or geology, or an associates degree in a relevant program with applicable field experience.

  • 2-4 years of work experience, including field work, on civil and/or geotechnical engineering projects, focusing on detailed design, site investigation, and technical communication. Preference given to mine waste/reclamation related work experience, as well as GPS/Total Station survey experience.

  • Qualified candidates will have construction experience and education or experience in engineering (e.g., civil, mining, geotech), geology, surveying, or material testing. This role includes field leadership, daily interface with a great client, and seeing years’ worth of mine closure engineering design be constructed on some very big rock piles.

  • Exceptional technical writing and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, technical leadership abilities, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the field at remote sites.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Experience using typical professional software packages including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
