The Group Leader – Water, Adelaide provides leadership to your market aligned team to ensure alignment to company vision, strategy, initiatives, and culture. You will be the advocate of the business both internally within Stantec and externally to clients and professional organisations. An essential element of the role is to support the Business Leader (BL) in regional based activities such as business development, business planning and performance.

You will support the BL and Market Leaders (ML) in being aware of the local market and project pipeline that feeds your teams. You will typically lead or support with positioning and proposal efforts depending on the scale and complexity of the opportunity. Pursuits relevant to your team are typically led by you or delegated to a team member. You will work closely with the BL, Project Management and Commercial Leader (PMCL), ML, and Practice Leaders (PLs) in your efforts, as well as other Group and Team Leaders with similar market alignment within other regions.

The role also has a strong focus on collaboration with Water business line peers from other offices and with other business lines within the region to positively impact the delivery of similar activities, and to ensure projects are adequately resourced to meet project requirements and that your team are fully utilised, trained and appropriately skilled. You will also be responsible for working with your team to manage the group’s professional development, career paths, safety and well-being.

The Group Leader position is a function, in addition to an employee’s substantive technical/project contribution role.

Specifically, your duties will include:

Reporting to the Business Leader – Water, Victoria and South Australia (BL), the Group Leader is responsible for:

  • Supporting the Business Leader with monitoring and reporting on the performance of the teams.

  • Supporting the Business Leader to initiate and manage business development opportunities, actively participate in and lead client service through establishing and maintaining strong relationships.

  • Coordinating resource and technical development requirements for your group with Practice Leaders, Discipline Leaders and other Group Leaders in the Water Business Centre.

  • Working with the PMCL to ensure that the Company’s Project Management Fundamentals are adhered to.

  • The group’s talent management lifecycle including but not limited to; recruitment suggestions, career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development.

  • Fostering a success-oriented environment within the teams by displaying collaborative behaviours and exerting measured and balanced influence.

  • Promoting a happy, supportive, and inclusive culture aligned with the core values to support the strategic intent of the business.

  • The group’s utilisation by effective forecasting, networking, business development and delegation and development of backlog.

  • The health and safety performance within their teams, including the monitoring of leading and lagging indicators.

  • Partnering with Health Safety Security Environment (HSSE) to ensure all company safety procedures, legal requirements and specific Health & Safety Regulations are met.

  • Achieving minimum LISI target set by the Regional Director for the annual period.

Alongside the above Group Leader responsibilities, you are expected to perform technical delivery in your area of expertise, including:

  • Coordinate multi‐disciplinary activities and inputs by the technical team, including specialist inputs, to ensure an integrated technical solution.

  • Support our delivery teams, acting in a senior leadership and management role on projects.

  • When required on projects, perform engineering tasks relevant to your area of expertise.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

  • Relevant engineering tertiary qualification, preferably post-graduate
